When people ask why I care so deeply about wedding photography, the answer is simple: because I’ve been the bride with regerts. (We‘re the Millers fans, anyone?)

My Wedding Day

I remember the butterflies. The laughter with my best friends. The way my husband smiled at me with nervousness. I remember the day with my whole heart and I always will.

But the photos? They’re tucked away on a CD, stored in a drawer I rarely open. Most importantly, blurry, pixilated. Unprintable beyond a 5×7. They do capture what it felt like to be there, but something is missing. The story feels incomplete.

In other words, it’s because I didn’t stand my ground.

My mom had a different vision for our wedding photography, and since she was paying, I let her call the shots. I wanted someone with an infinity to tell stories through their photography. As much as I love my mom, she didn’t understand that artistry that is told through photographs. Our photographer was kind, but the connection wasn’t there. They didn’t know us, didn’t understand our personalities, didn’t take the time to ask. And I know, it was a wedding we planned, fast. Even though, my husband did get a few photo’s in of himself being silly.

My Regrets Turned Into a Passion

That experience lit a fire in me.

I never want another bride to feel like she has to hide her wedding photos in a drawer.
